Rev Scott Cross
Don’t just go through the motions—go deeper. This Communion Sunday, we’re reminded that what Jesus has done for us is far greater than we often pause to consider. His grace brings forgiveness, freedom, transformation, and new life. Communion isn’t about perfection—it’s about reflection. It’s a sacred moment to examine yourself, bring your struggles honestly before God, and receive His renewing grace.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart…” (Psalm 139:23)
As you watch, slow down, reflect, and encounter the life-changing power of Christ.
Looking Deeper At Communion
Don’t Rush—Go Deeper in Your Faith
Just as many people only skim the surface of important moments, we can do the same with our faith. Communion invites us to slow down, reflect, and truly understand the depth of what Christ has done.
- 1 Corinthians 11:23–26
- Psalm 46:10 — “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Grace Brings Life Transformation
Communion reminds us of the grace of Jesus, which brings real change. Through His sacrifice, we receive:
- Forgiveness
- Freedom
- Transformation
- New opportunities
- A new way of life
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 — “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…”
- Ephesians 1:7 — “In Him we have redemption through His blood…”
The Power of the Body and Blood of Christ
The bread and the cup are not just symbols—they point to the life-giving power of Jesus’ sacrifice. His blood brings forgiveness, cleansing, and spiritual life.
- 1 Corinthians 11:24–25
- Hebrews 9:22 — “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
- Leviticus 17:11 — “For the life of the flesh is in the blood…”
Examine Your Heart Honestly Before God
Communion is a sacred opportunity for self-reflection—not about earning worthiness, but about approaching God with honesty and humility. We are invited to examine our hearts, confess sin, and bring our struggles before Him.
- 1 Corinthians 11:27–28
- Psalm 139:23–24 — “Search me, O God, and know my heart…”
- Lamentations 3:40 — “Let us examine our ways and test them…”
Communion Is a Time of Renewal and Spiritual Reset
Like a needed update or inspection, communion allows us to realign our lives with God. It’s a moment to release burdens, strengthen our faith—even if it feels weak—and receive His grace again.
- Mark 9:24 — “I believe; help my unbelief!”
- Hebrews 12:1 — “Let us throw off everything that hinders…”
- 1 Peter 3:8–11 — A call to live with love, humility, and integrity
Closing Thought
Communion is not just a ritual—it’s an invitation to encounter God’s grace, reflect deeply, and walk forward renewed in faith, freedom, and purpose.
