Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

Rev Scott Cross

What do you do when life doesn’t go the way you planned?
The disciples expected celebration—but instead, they found themselves facing confusion, fear, and heartbreak. And right in the middle of it all, Jesus spoke these words:
“Let not your heart be troubled… believe in Me.” (John 14:1)

This Easter message is a powerful reminder that even when life feels uncertain, Jesus is still in control. What looked like defeat on the cross became victory through the resurrection—and the same hope is available to us today.

If your heart feels overwhelmed or unsettled, this message is for you.
He is risen—and He is still our peace.

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

Jesus Has Set Us Free—More Than We Realize

There was a simple but powerful picture shared of birds being set free from a cage—and it captures the heart of Easter. Without Christ, we were trapped—caught in sin, pain, and brokenness. But Jesus didn’t just feel sorry for us—He paid the price for our freedom.

Easter reminds us that the door is open. We’re no longer prisoners. The question is: are we living like we’re free?

Scripture: John 8:36; Colossians 1:13–14

We All Know What It Feels Like to Have a Troubled Heart

Jesus spoke the words “Let not your heart be troubled” in the middle of a moment that should have been full of celebration—but instead, it was filled with confusion, fear, and uncertainty.

That feels familiar, doesn’t it?

We’ve all had moments where life didn’t turn out the way we expected. Plans fall apart. Relationships don’t look like we hoped. Situations arise that shake us deeply. Like the disciples, we can find ourselves overwhelmed, not even sure which way is up.

And right there—in the middle of it—Jesus meets us.

Scripture: John 14:1; John 16:33

Jesus Invites Us to Trust Him—Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense

It’s one thing to say we believe in God. It’s another thing to trust Jesus when life feels like it’s falling apart.

The disciples were about to watch everything they hoped for seemingly collapse. And yet Jesus told them: Don’t stop believing in Me.

That same invitation is for us. When we can’t see what God is doing… when circumstances don’t line up… when faith feels difficult—we hold on to Him anyway.

Scripture: John 14:1; 2 Corinthians 5:7

What Feels Like the End May Be the Beginning

Good Friday looked like defeat. Everything seemed lost. But Easter Sunday proved otherwise.

Jesus turned sorrow into joy. Death into life. Hopelessness into victory.

And He still does that today. The things in our lives that feel final, broken, or beyond repair are not the end of the story when Jesus is involved.

Scripture: John 16:20; Acts 2:24

You’re Not Alone—God Is Closer Than You Think

One of the most comforting truths of Easter is this: Jesus didn’t just rise and leave us to figure things out on our own. He gave us His Spirit.

That means God is not distant—He is present. He walks with us, strengthens us, and brings peace right into the middle of our storms.

For the troubled heart, this changes everything.

Scripture: John 14:16–17; Acts 2:38

Final Thought

If you’re walking through a season where your heart feels heavy or unsettled, Jesus’ words still speak clearly today:
“Let not your heart be troubled… believe in Me.”

Because Easter reminds us—no matter what we see or feel—
He is risen, He is with us, and He is still our hope.
